Most of this book takes place before she is famous, and I learned a lot more about her childhood than I had known. What was there is very interesting and thought provoking. We just skim the surface of so many issues, including her childhood, that need more explaining. It’s not that she is a bad writer or that her thoughts aren’t portrayed well, but she could have made the book more personal.

Honestly, this book could have used some help with expanding her writing. Right in the middle of her “honeymoon” with Joe DiMaggio the chapter ends because that is all of Marilyn’s manuscript. Lots of short chapters, without ever digging into anything very deeply, and then the book just stops. What I discovered is that you can’t have one at all. I remember buying this book because I wondered how you could have an autobiography about a person that died so young. This time, I found a Marilyn Monroe autobiography entitled My Story. I have a tendency to buy books, especially on actors and actresses, and then I don’t get around to reading them for months or sometimes years. After Marilyn Monroe’s birthday a couple weeks ago I looked through my book to see what I had on Marilyn, that I had not read yet. I don’t often talk about the books that I read, but this week I decided that I would.
